Dialogue Facilitation Training for Community Facilitators

From August 7-9, 2024, the Eastern Development Initiative (EDI), in collaboration with Life & Peace Institute (LPI), held an important training session at Karamara Hotel in Dire Dawa. This Dialogue Facilitation Training for Community Dialogue Facilitators was part of our ongoing project: Community-led Conflict Transformation through Participatory Action Research (PAR).

Over three days, we worked closely with local leaders, equipping them with skills to lead effective community dialogues. This training is crucial to our efforts in promoting peace and resolving conflicts in Dire Dawa and West Arsi.

We had a diverse group of participants, all passionate about making positive changes in their communities. They dove into learning and practicing key dialogue facilitation skills. The training covered important topics like how social identities influence conflicts, effective conflict analysis methods, and techniques for guiding productive conversations that lead to real solutions.

At EDI and LPI, we believe in hands-on learning. Participants didn’t just sit through lectures – they got involved in lively group discussions, tried their hand at role-playing exercises, and got plenty of practical experience. This approach helped them sharpen their skills in real-time, preparing them to turn potential conflicts into opportunities for growth and understanding back in their communities.
