Organizational Profile

Eastern Development Initiative is a federally registered civil society organization from the federal democratic republic of Ethiopia Authority for civil society organizations, Addis Ababa, with the registration number 2725. Our organization accomplishes a number of projects since the time it was established in 2008 G.C. when EDI come to an independent organization, the government CSO agency has permitted the organization to participate and find the solution on every broader societal and citizen matters without limitation of geographical reach in all over Ethiopia, but our organization is not participated and engaged in any political parties because, our target is to serve our citizen without differentiating one group from the other.

Currently, EDI is working the Sustainable peace project on “Fostering sustainable peace initiatives through promoting, strengthening and protecting social cohesion for consensus among the diverse communities in Dire Dawa city” in collaboration with PACT Ethiopia/USAID to create sustainable peace and social cohesion in Dire Dawa administration and Community Led conflict transformation through participatory action research in Dire Dawa City, and others.

Our Vision

The vision for EDI is to see an Ethiopian society in which a holistic and balanced development process is put in place, giving women, girls and the youth the societal significance and place they deserve in building a self-reliant, culturally, socially, political and economically advanced Ethiopia whose peoples are guaranteed equity between the sexes and among the generations.

Our Mission

EDI works for the fullest realization of social, cultural and economic inclusion and development of women, girls and the youth through researching, organizing sensitization forums, provision of skills development and capacity building opportunities in close collaboration with civil society institutions working on gender, health, Peace and Security. Environment and poverty eradication on the basis of the country’s long-term development plan.
